When is the mortgage due for renewal? Any equity in your home? Perhaps you can see if another bank will remortgage. Sometimes the penalties are worth while to bring you relief.

Have you thought of returning to school (student loans)? Many post-secondary institutions have day care. . .

If you can’t meet your regular bills (mortgage & utilities) even if you were up to date and on track, maybe it would be worth considering selling and buying a less expensive place.

Okay, those won’t work for you. . . Just two other suggestions then:

    1) If you have a spreadsheet program, like Excel, set up your income and expenses on a spreadsheet and lay it out for the next two years. . . for every payday. Sometimes when you can see the picture out a bit further than next month, the view isn’t as bad as it seems. . . or at least you can get a handle on what extra income you need to get by.

    2) If there are any credit councelling centers around there (sometimes a free service here in Canada), stop in and see them. They are not there to judge you or make you feel badly, they are there to help you get a handle on things and keep your head above water. They may have some great ideas you haven’t thought of.

I really do wish you all the best. . . money problems can be the biggest stressor in any marriage. . . keep hugging each other and you’ll be okay :)

Be glad it is only $2,000, far less than most people.

    Continue to reduce expenses.

Create a support system with another woman. Exchange child care for getting time to do part time work.
